Diablo II: Lord of Destruction — Portable Work Guide
Technical Report: Diablo II Lord of Destruction – Portable Implementation
Date: October 26, 2023
Subject: Configuration for Portable Play (Modern Handhelds & Laptops)
Target Hardware: Steam Deck, Windows Handhelds (GPD/Ayaneo), Modern Laptops
Making Saves Truly Portable
By default, D2 saves to C:\Users\[You]\Saved Games\Diablo II\ or the Windows registry-defined path. diablo ii lord of destruction portablel work
✅ Force save to USB drive:
- Open Registry Editor on each PC you play (temporary) → not truly portable.
- Better workaround: Use PlugY (portable version). PlugY stores saves inside the game folder.
- Simplest: Before playing, copy your save files from
X:\Diablo II\Save\ to the host PC's save folder. After playing, copy them back. (Manual but works everywhere.)
Real-World Use Case: A Day in Portable D2 Work
- 8:30 AM – Commute (30 min train): Steam Deck out. Run Countess 10 times. No key drops but found a Lem rune.
- 12:00 PM – Lunch break (20 min): Switch to phone via Moonlight from home PC. Finish Act 2 Hell on my summonmancer. Save and quit at Canyon of the Magi waypoint.
- 3:00 PM – Afternoon slump (5 min): Quick Pindleskin run on ROG Ally. Nothing good. Resume spreadsheet work.
- 6:30 PM – Home (2 hours): Load the same save file on my desktop PC. Transfer that Lem rune to my Zealer. Run Ubers with the saved keys from portable sessions.
That synergy—between short, interruptible sessions and long, focused home play—is the entire promise of Diablo II Lord of Destruction portable work. Diablo II: Lord of Destruction — Portable Work
3. Official Portable-Like Options (Nintendo Switch / PS Vita)
- Diablo II: Resurrected on Nintendo Switch – This is the remaster, not the original LoD. However, it includes all LoD content. The Switch version is fully portable and supports offline single-player. Recommended for most users seeking a hassle-free portable experience.
- PS Vita – No native version. Some users have streamed LoD from PC via Moonlight or used homebrew to run Diablo (PS1 port), but not LoD.
