Let’s address the elephant in the room. Konami (now KONAMI) no longer sells PES 2009 commercially. It is classified as Abandonware. While this legally sits in a gray area (copyright technically lasts 70+ years), most copyright holders do not enforce takedowns on titles that no longer generate revenue.
Our stance: If you own an original copy of PES 2009 that is scratched or lost, downloading a compressed backup is generally considered acceptable. If you have never bought the game, treat this as a trial—consider supporting the official eFootball series if you enjoy the mechanics.
Vanilla PES 2009 is great, but the kits, rosters, and transfers are from 2008/2009. Messi is still #19, Ronaldo is still at Manchester United.
