Important Note: Modifying your PSP's firmware carries a small risk if not done correctly. Ensure your PSP battery is at least 75% charged and your console is a PSP-1000, PSP-2000, PSP-3000, or PSP Street (E-1000). This does not work on the PSP Go without specific additional steps (see note at end).

Troubleshooting

  • "Corrupted Data" : Make sure the PROUPDATE folder is inside /PSP/GAME/ and not double-nested.
  • Installation fails : Your firmware may not be 6.61. Double-check System Information.
  • PSP Go users : PRO-C2 works, but permanent install requires Infinity 2.0. Do not use CIPL Flasher – it will brick a PSP Go.

Final note: Downloading copyrighted ISOs you do not own is illegal. Use custom firmware responsibly to play your own game backups, homebrew, or emulated classics. Enjoy your modded PSP!

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

Once you have managed to download the PSP 6.61 Pro-C2 custom firmware files, follow these instructions exactly. You do not need a "Mod Chip" or hardware modification.

Requirements:

  • Any PSP model (1000, 2000, 3000, Go, or Street/E1000).
  • A Memory Stick Pro Duo (or MicroSD with adapter) formatted to FAT32.
  • A USB cable or Card Reader.
  • Official Sony Firmware 6.61 already installed on your PSP. (Check under Settings > System Information).

Making it Permanent (For some models)

If you download the PSP 6.61 Pro-C2 custom firmware on a PSP-1000 or a PSP-2000 with a TA-085 or lower motherboard, you can run the "CIPL Flasher" included in the download to make it permanent.

If you have a PSP-3000, PSP Go, or PSP Street, you cannot use the old CIPL method. Instead, you must use Infinity 2.0 (by Davee). Install Infinity after installing PRO-C2. Once Infinity is set to boot PRO-C2, your CFW will survive a full shutdown.

Step 3: Run the Update on PSP

  • Disconnect your USB cable.
  • On the PSP XMB (main menu), scroll to Game > Memory Stick™.
  • You will see an icon named "PRO-C2 Update."
  • Plug your PSP into a power outlet (do not run this on battery only).
  • Launch the update. Accept the license agreement. The tool will check your firmware version (it must say 6.61).
  • Press X to install.

For PSP-3000, PSP Go, PSP Street, and TA-088v3:

You cannot use CIPL (it will brick your device). You must use Fast Recovery.

  • After a full shutdown (power switch held up for 3 seconds), the PSP will revert to Official 6.61.
  • To re-enable CFW, simply run the "Fast Recovery" icon from your Game menu. It takes 2 seconds and loads all custom features back instantly.

Alternative for 3000/Go: Use the Infinity 2.0 patch. This is a separate installation that permanently patches the boot process. It is more complex but recommended for heavy users.

Step 3: Installing the CFW (Temporary Install)

This is the standard method for PSP 3000, Go, and Street models, and the safest method for 2000 models with unhackable motherboards.

  1. Connect your PSP to your PC via USB.
  2. Open the downloaded PRO-C2 ZIP file.
  3. Copy the PROUPDATE folder and the FastRecovery folder.
  4. Paste these folders into the PSP/GAME directory on your Memory Stick.
    • The path should look like: PSP/GAME/PROUPDATE/EBOOT.PBP
    • And: PSP/GAME/FastRecovery/EBOOT.PBP
  5. Disconnect the USB.
  6. On your PSP, go to Game > Memory Stick.
  7. Launch the PROUPDATE application.
  8. The installer screen will appear. Press X to start the installation.
  9. Wait a few seconds. You will see text scrolling and eventually, it will say "Installation Complete."
  10. Press X to shut down the PSP.

To verify: Turn your PSP back on. Go to Settings > System Settings > System Information. It should say 6.61 PRO-C2.
