3. Detailed Breakdown of Tasks

What is the Goethe Zertifikat A2 Schreiben?

The Goethe-Zertifikat A2 is designed for adults (and teenagers from age 12) who want to confirm their basic German skills. The exam has four parts: Listening (Hören), Reading (Lesen), Writing (Schreiben), and Speaking (Sprechen).

The Schreiben section lasts 30 minutes. It is divided into two separate parts (Teil 1 and Teil 2), and you must complete both tasks on the answer sheet provided.

Why is this important? At the A2 level, you are not expected to write perfect literature. You are expected to communicate practical information clearly. Model answer (correct):

Mistake 4: Copying entire sentences from the prompt

2. Structure of the Writing Section

The writing section consists of two compulsory parts:

| Part | Task Type | Time (approx.) | Points | |------|-----------|----------------|--------| | 1 | Form filling (e.g., registration, request) | 10–12 min | 5 | | 2 | Writing a short message/letter (30–40 words) | 15–18 min | 10 | | Total | | 30 min | 15 |

Note: A passing grade requires a total score from all sections, but writing should aim for at least 8–10 out of 15 points.
