IMPORTANT NOTICE: APPLIES TO ANY/ALL VERSIONS OF SERVICE PACK 3.x

Core options are for users ONLY, who will not be using Internet Explorer
IF YOU USE INTERNET EXPLORER, DO NOT INSTALL ANY OF THE CORE OPTIONS OR YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEMS.

U98SESP3.EXE is a very extensive Windows™ 98SE update pack. It's for w98SE ONLY not for other version of windows98.

ALL THE PROBLEMS AND ISSUES WHATEVER THEY ARE CONCERNING U98SESP3.EXE MUST BE POSTED ON THE FORUM.

Please do so, if you have a problem. It's very important for the progression of this service pack.

The forum is NOT a customer service. It's a benevolent community of w98 enthousiasts who will try to help you. Feel free to ask any question there.

Before installing U98SESP3.EXE make sure that:
1/ You have the original w98SE installation disc.
It will change core system files. It means that if something goes wrong you must be prepared to reinstall windows from the beginning.
Sometimes installing U98SESP3.EXE after a fresh install is working normaly while it failed on an old install.
2/ You made a back up of all important datas.
It's extremely unlikely that an error forces you to reinstall windows and eventualy to reformat thus to erase your hard drive.
But for the sake of safety, please do it!
3/ You made a back up of your system files
A copy of the "windows" and "Program Files" directories, at least the "windows" directory, preferably on a second physical hard drive or on CD or DVD or an external drive.
This is usefull to revert back to a prior w98se install which was already updated and functioning well.
Restoring windows 98 can be done simply be recopying all the system files back to their original location, in dos mode. The easiest way is to use a second physical (not a partition) and internal (not USB) hard drive.
It's aslo a good idea to make sure a copy of the registry has been automaticaly preserved in the system files you backed up and to know how to restore the registry in dos: boot in DOS, then type SCANREG /RESTORE.
4/ You have time and patience to read all the instructions
If you are somebody who will select all options no matter what they are or who will click "OK" instead of "Cancel" on any dialog box without knowing what was the question about, then you are sure to run into trouble.
Don't do it in a rush. If words are written on the screen it must be important. Please read them.
5/ You have read the disclaimer below.

The Reign of Sinetron

For decades, the sinetron (soap opera) has dominated primetime slots. Produced by giants like MNC Media and SCTV, these melodramatic series—often featuring mystical jinn, reincarnated romances, or gritty family rivalries—pull in ratings that rival Western blockbusters. Shows like Ikatan Cinta (Love Knots) routinely attracted over 30 million viewers per episode. These productions set the standard for serialized storytelling, creating a template that web series would later disrupt: high emotion, cliffhangers, and relatable working-class heroes. Movie Industry: A Growing Force Indonesia's film industry,

YouTube: The New Television

Indonesian YouTubers are no longer amateurs; they are C-level celebrities. Channels like Atta Halilintar (often called "the Jake Paul of Indonesia") boast over 27 million subscribers. His content—ranging from luxury vlogs to family stunts—epitomizes the shift toward parasocial intimacy. Meanwhile, Ria Ricis redefined gender norms with her unique brand of chaotic, family-friendly skits.

These creators have realized that popular videos in Indonesia must be hyper-localized. A video that works in Texas will fail in Surabaya. Indonesian audiences crave authenticity that reflects their own reality: street food tours of Padang cuisine, comedic sketches about RT/RW (neighborhood association) drama, and prank videos shot in local pasar (markets).

2. Unique Indonesian YouTube Genres

| Genre | Example Creator | Why It’s Interesting | |-------|----------------|----------------------| | Prank with social experiments | Fiki Naki | Pranks often have moral twists (e.g., “fake kidnapping to test public response”). | | Mobile game commentary | Jess No Limit | High-energy, fast-cut editing; collabs with local celebrities. | | Mukbang with traditional food | Ria SW | Explores rare regional dishes (e.g., papeda from Papua, ulukutek from West Java). | | Satirical news commentary | Nessie Judge | Sharp critique of Indonesian pop culture & politics, delivered in English/Indonesian mix. |

For decades, Indonesian television was dominated by sinetrons—melodramatic soap operas featuring crying, evil stepmothers, amnesia, and forbidden love. While still popular, the landscape has shifted toward high-quality streaming.

C. Horror & Supernatural Content

Indonesia has a deep cultural belief in the supernatural (e.g., pocong, kuntilanak). YouTube horror channels such as MiawAug and Calon Sarjana produce “real ghost hunting” videos, often filmed at night in abandoned buildings or cemeteries. This genre thrives on suspense and community speculation.
