Chapter 4: The Ant Colony Mines

Objective: Destroy the Queen’s Pheromone Reactor.

You are now deep underground. The air is thick with mind-control pheromones. If you stay in one spot for more than 10 seconds, you become "Enslaved" and walk into a grinder. The Ultimate Insect Prison Walkthrough: Escape the Terrarium

  1. Gas Mask Crafting: You need a filter. Combine the Charcoal (found in the burnt log room) with the Cotton Fiber (plucked from a dead dandelion) and the Empty Acorn Cap.
  2. The Conveyor Belt: There is a puzzle involving a conveyor belt of grubs. You must jump from grub to grub. Wait for the White Grub (moves fast) and jump. The Brown Grubs are slow and will drop you into the Queen’s stomach acid.
  3. Destroying the Reactor: Use the Molten Wax (collected from a candle in the Guard Room) and pour it on the reactor core. This shorts out the pheromone field.

4. The "Prison" Cell (Rescue Mission)

  • This is the part that feels most like a "prison." You will find a jail-like cell.
  • Inside the cell, you will find Garry (or Mary, depending on your route). They are trapped.
  • Puzzle: To open the cell, you need to input a code or find a specific switch.
    • Clue: Look at the paintings on the wall. They usually correspond to numbers or colors.
    • Action: Examine the numbers scribbled on the wall or the floor. In some versions, you must pull the red cord in the adjacent room to drop the key into the cell.
  • Event: Once the cell is open, a dialogue sequence will occur. Garry will be unsettled by the bugs.

Level 5: The Parole Hearing (Release)

You’ve watched the worm turn into a pupa. You’ve seen the roly-poly roll. The novelty has worn off.

Remember: Bugs have short lifespans. Keeping a wild insect for more than 1 week is cruel. You are a naturalist, not a tyrant. Chapter 4: The Ant Colony Mines Objective: Destroy

The Pardon Process:

  1. Take the prison to the exact spot you found the inmate.
  2. Open the lid.
  3. Say, "You’ve done your time. Go pollinate something."
  4. Watch them scurry away to tell their friends about the giant who gave them free apples and a stick to climb.

6. Tone and stylistic choices

  • Blend clinical description with lyrical close-ups.
  • Alternate scales: microscope-like detail vs. panoramic systems view.
  • Use ambiguity: leave moral judgments open, let readers infer complicity.
  • Intermix formats: diagrams, diary entries, faux-scientific reports, overheard dialogues.

Game: Ib – Area Walkthrough: The Insect Cage

Context: This area is accessed after the Sketchbook area. The atmosphere changes to a dark, blue-tinted dungeon filled with spider webs, moths, and pestilence themes.

Secret Ending (King of Insects)

  • Requirements: Find the 5 hidden "Royal Jelly" vials.
  • Path: Drink the Royal Jelly before escaping. Do not go to the elevator.
  • Result: You mutate into a Wasp-Man hybrid. You break the glass of the terrarium with your bare fists. You become the new Warden. The screen fades to black with the sound of insects cheering.

Tips & Tricks

  • Save at every checkpoint—some timing sections are strict.
  • Use shadows and ambient sound cues to detect hidden paths.
  • If stuck on a block puzzle, think in reverse: where must you stand to move each block?
  • Conserve dash/energy—many sequences require a final sprint.

Act IV: The Sporeheart (Fungi Zone)

This is the most atmospheric and disturbing level. Giant cordyceps fungi have taken over a colony of dead beetles. The air is thick with spores.
