The Angry Young Man of the 1970s (Amitabh Bachchan) continued into the early '80s, but by the mid-to-late '80s, romantic musicals, family dramas, and a new wave of action-comedies took over. The decade ended with the rise of a new superstar: Aamir Khan (Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, 1988).

❌ Weaknesses
- Formula overdose – Lost-and-found, long-lost brothers, rape-revenge dramas became clichés.
- Decline of parallel cinema – By 1987, mainstream masala completely overshadowed art films.
- Objectification – Mandakini waterfall scene (Ram Teri Ganga Maili) and increased item numbers set a regressive trend.
4. Ardh Satya (1983)
- Why it matters: A landmark of Parallel Cinema. Govind Nihalani’s film explored police brutality and the psychological toll of power structures.
- Star Power: Om Puri delivered a powerhouse performance as a cop questioning the system.
2. Coolie (1983)
- Why it matters: Perhaps the most anticipated film of the decade. It gained massive publicity when Amitabh Bachchan suffered a near-fatal injury on set during a fight scene with Puneet Issar. The film released to record-breaking collections.
