Full Story of Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted

After the events of Madagascar 2, Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe, and Gloria the hippo are still stuck in Africa. They desperately want to return to their beloved New York Zoo. The penguins (Skipper, Kowalski, Rico, Private) have rebuilt a crashed plane, but it falls apart mid-flight. The group crash-lands in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

While trying to find the penguins (who have gone to gamble), the animals cause massive destruction at a casino. This attracts the attention of Captain Chantel DuBois – a ruthless, obsessive French animal-control officer who collects exotic animal heads as trophies. She wants Alex’s head mounted on her wall.

On the run, the four main animals hide on a circus train. The circus is Zaragoza’s Traveling Circus, led by a Siberian tiger named Vitaly, a sad Italian sea lion named Stefano, and a cheerful jaguar named Gia. To evade DuBois, Alex pretends they are a new circus act called “Afro Circus.” Using their American showmanship and energy, they revitalize the circus, creating dazzling new performances. Along the way:

  • Alex falls for Gia (the jaguar).
  • Melman falls for a hippo nurse (but stays loyal to Gloria).
  • Marty invents a wild cannonball act.
  • Gloria becomes a singing star.

The circus becomes a massive hit across Europe, finally reaching Rome. But DuBois tracks them there. In a spectacular chase through Rome’s streets, the animals escape. The circus decides to help them return to New York by performing in London and catching a ship from there.

At the London show, DuBois attacks. A huge finale chase ends with the animals boarding the ship. They arrive in New York, only to realize they miss their circus family. But the circus has secretly followed them! The film ends with the animals happily running the circus in Central Park — and DuBois is finally defeated when the penguins send her flying into a dumpster in New Jersey.
