Magic Earth User Manual

3. The "Magic" Features: Driver Assistance

This is where the app shines. Magic Earth offers advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) typically found in expensive modern cars.

Heads-Up Display (HUD):

  • Found in the settings under Display.
  • This mode mirrors the screen image so you can place your phone on the dashboard and see the navigation projected onto your windshield at night.

Driver Warnings: Go to Settings > Driver Assistance. Here you can toggle:

  • Speed Limit Warnings: The app will warn you if you exceed the speed limit. You can set a threshold (e.g., warn me only if I go 5mph over).
  • Speed Cameras: Alerts for red-light and speed cameras.
  • School Zones: Audible warnings when approaching schools.
  • Railway Crossings: Alerts for train tracks ahead.

Note: Magic Earth does not use an internet connection for these; they are calculated based on the map data and your GPS position.

12. Official Resources

  • User manual (PDF): From inside app: Menu → Help → “User manual” (opens local PDF).
  • FAQ: https://magicearth.com/faq
  • Support: Email support@magicearth.com (response in 24–48h).

Final recommendation: For a privacy-focused, fully offline-capable free navigation app, Magic Earth is excellent. Read the in-app Help section (Menu → Help → “Tips & Tricks”) for video tutorials.

Report generated based on Magic Earth app version 9.5+ (Feb 2025 typical features).

Chapter 6: Augmented Reality (AR) – The Sci-Fi Button

Do you have a newer phone? Look for the AR button (looks like a little phone/rectangle) next to the start button.

How to use AR Navigation:

  1. Set a destination.
  2. Tap Start.
  3. Tap the AR icon.
  4. Hold your phone up like a camera.
  5. Magic: You will see virtual arrows painted on the real street via your camera view.

Warning: Do not walk into a fountain using this mode. The manual assumes you will keep your eyes on the road.

4.4 Waypoints (Multiple Stops)

Unlike many free apps, Magic Earth supports multi-stop routes:

  1. Enter a destination.
  2. Tap the Three dots on the route screen > Add stop.
  3. Search for your intermediate destination.
  4. Drag the handles to reorder stops. Maximum: 5 waypoints.

10.3 Waypoints and Multiple Stops

  • Add intermediate stops; reorder by dragging items in the route list.
  • Optimize route order if supported (tap "Optimize" or similar).

Security & privacy notes

  • Offline maps store routing and map data locally on the device; downloaded map files can be deleted at any time to free space.
  • Location services must be enabled on the device for accurate positioning; this uses GPS and does not require a network connection.

Setting up Speed Cameras

Magic Earth includes community-reported speed cameras, red light cameras, and average speed zones.

  1. Go to Settings > Warnings.
  2. Toggle Speed cameras on.
  3. Set alert distance (e.g., "300 meters before").

Note: If you drive in a country where camera alerts are illegal (e.g., Switzerland, France), turn this feature off in the settings to comply with local laws.
