If your Year 2 child finds even the "easy" sample questions difficult, don’t panic. Here is a three-step action plan:

1. Rule out anxiety – Some children freeze with any "test" label. Call it a "reading game" instead.
2. Check phonics foundations – Can they blend CVC words (cat, dog, sun)? If not, focus on Phase 3–5 phonics before comprehension.
3. Talk to the teacher – Ask for a low-stakes reading observation. The school may already have data from earlier in the year.
