What is the Torchlight II Base NSP?
An NSP is the digital installable format for Nintendo Switch games. Unlike an XCI (cartridge dump), an NSP mirrors the eShop version. For Torchlight II, the base NSP is roughly 3.4 GB in size. It includes:
- The full 4-act campaign.
- Four character classes: Engineer, Outlander, Berserker, and Embermage.
- The pet system (with unique transformations).
- New Game Plus (NG+) mode.
- Local wireless and online co-op (for up to 4 players).
However, the base 1.0.0 version of the NSP is notorious for issues—most notably long loading times, frame rate drops in crowded fights, and occasional crashes.
Known limitations
- Split-screen local co-op remains limited by Switch hardware; expect occasional performance dips in 2-player local sessions.
- No major graphical overhaul—improvements focus on stability and UI rather than high-fidelity visuals.
Why the Switch Port Still Matters in 2025
Before diving into the technicalities of NSPs (Nintendo Submission Packages) and updates, let's acknowledge why Torchlight II remains a staple on the hybrid console:
- Offline-First Design: Unlike Diablo III (which requires seasonal online checks) or Diablo IV (cloud-streamed), Torchlight II on Switch works entirely offline. This makes it perfect for Switch hacking scenes where airplane mode is standard.
- Local Co-op: The Switch version supports 4-player local wireless and 2-player split-screen on a single console.
- Pet System: Your pet (wolf, cat, hawk, or weird lizard) travels back to town to sell loot. No other ARPG does inventory management this elegantly.
But the base cartridge (or base NSP) is just the beginning.
"My pet is missing its Unique Collar."
- Cause: You loaded a save file from v1.0.0 after installing the DLC.
- Fix: This is a rare desync. Visit the "Vendor in Estheria" – the collar will appear for free in the "Consumables" tab.
Recommended for players
- New players: Good time to jump in—bug fixes and QoL features make the Switch experience smoother.
- Returning players: DLC offers fresh endgame challenges and incentives to try alternative builds and co-op runs.
- Speedrunners/competitive: Leaderboard mode and repeatable arenas add objectives beyond standard progression.

I was just wondering, is there ever such a thing as “over scoring” ? (I don’t mean the depth, but I mean the number of score cuts or the surface area that gets scored)

Hey Veronica! Yes, it’s absolutely a thing. Scoring should be effective in order for the surface to bloom optimally. Each stroke comes with a trade of oven spring, since tension is released from the surface . If the pattern on top is more important then the spring then it’s no real issue, the content and fermentation of the bread is still the same.
