Report: Understanding BIOS Password Management for the Unowhy Y13 Tablet
Subject: Analysis of BIOS Password Installation, Recovery, and Security Implications for the Unowhy Y13 Device.
Date: October 26, 2023
Prepared For: User Requesting Technical Procedure
Method 1: CMOS Battery Reset (Requires opening the laptop)
Warning: Opening the device may void warranty or damage components. unowhy y13 bios password install
- Remove bottom cover (Phillips #00 screws).
- Locate the coin-cell CMOS battery (CR2032).
- Disconnect the small connector (or remove the battery from its holder).
- Wait 10–15 minutes (or press power button for 30 secs to drain caps).
- Reconnect CMOS battery, reassemble, boot – BIOS password should be cleared.
3.2 "Password Installed" But It Never Asks at Boot
- Cause: The Y13 has a "Password on Boot" toggle that is disabled by default.
- Fix: Re-enter BIOS > Security > "Password on Boot" . Change from "Disabled" to "Enabled." Without this, the password only protects BIOS access, not OS loading.
✅ Method 2 – Clear CMOS (hardware reset)
Tools needed:
- Small Phillips screwdriver
- Non-conductive pry tool (plastic spudger)
- Tweezers (optional)
Steps:
- Power off the Unowhy Y13 and unplug the charger.
- Remove the bottom cover (usually 6–8 small screws).
- Disconnect the internal battery (large flat cable on the motherboard). Wait 30 seconds.
- Locate the CMOS battery – a small coin cell (CR2032) wrapped in black/red wires with a 2-pin connector. Disconnect it for 2–3 minutes.
- While the CMOS battery is disconnected, hold the power button for 20 seconds to drain residual charge.
- Reconnect CMOS battery, then main battery, reassemble, and power on.
The BIOS password should be cleared. If not, the password may be stored in EEPROM (non-volatile memory) – requires Method 3.
3. Installing via UEFI Shell (For Refurbishers / Mass Deployment)
If you have physical access and need to script password installation across many Y13 units: Remove bottom cover (Phillips #00 screws)
# Boot to UEFI Shell (e.g., from USB FAT32 with Shell.efi)
# Unlock setup (if no password set yet):
