Driver Version 02.10.00 - Vcds Usb

Quick guide — VCDS USB driver v02.10.00

What this driver is

Installation steps

  1. Close VCDS (if running).
  2. Run the driver installer package (v02.10.00) as Administrator: right-click → Run as administrator.
  3. Allow driver installation when Windows prompts (accept unsigned driver only if you trust the source).
  4. After installer completes, connect the VCDS USB cable to the PC and to vehicle (or just PC).
  5. Windows should recognize the device; open Device Manager → look under “Ports (COM & LPT)” or “Universal Serial Bus controllers.”
  6. Note the COM port assigned (e.g., COM3). In VCDS settings, set the cable port to that COM number.

Key Features of Version 02.10.00:

Part 2: Disable Driver Signature Enforcement (Windows 10/11 only)

Since version 02.10.00 uses SHA-1 signatures (deprecated after 2021), you must disable driver signing temporarily or permanently.

Temporary Method (easiest for installation): vcds usb driver version 02.10.00

  1. Hold Shift and click Restart from the Start menu.
  2. After reboot, go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  3. Press F7 to select "Disable driver signature enforcement".
  4. Install the driver now.

1. Cloned or Third-Party Interfaces (The Gray Market)

Let’s address the elephant in the room. While Ross-Tech strongly supports genuine interfaces, many hobbyists use cheaper, cloned interfaces from eBay or AliExpress. Modern FTDI drivers (versions 2.12.00 and above) contain FTDI’s “anti-counterfeit” kill switch. If the driver detects a fake FTDI chip, it may set the USB Product ID to 0x0000, effectively bricking the cable. Driver version 02.10.00 predates this aggressive anti-clone mechanism, allowing older clones to continue functioning. Quick guide — VCDS USB driver v02

Disclaimer: Ross-Tech does not support cloned interfaces. Using a clone deprives you of firmware updates, official support, and can potentially damage your vehicle’s modules. Step 2: Uninstall Old Drivers (Crucial!)

Old drivers can conflict.

  1. Open Device Manager on Windows.
  2. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers or Ross-Tech Interfaces.
  3. Right-click any existing VCDS entry and select Uninstall device.
  4. Check the box "Delete the driver software for this device" if available.
  5. Reboot your PC.

Performance Metrics

In bench tests, version 02.10.00 achieves approximately 95% of the throughput of the latest FTDI drivers. However, its deterministic latency (reliable 2ms) actually outperforms newer drivers on single-core CPUs found in older laptops. For reading fault codes, live data (measuring blocks), and basic output tests, this driver is more than sufficient. For high-speed logging (e.g., turboback pressure at 100 samples/sec), you will want a newer driver and a genuine HEX-V2 interface.

Q4: The driver installs, but my VCDS software crashes on startup.

A: This is rarely a driver issue. It’s usually a corrupt VCDS installation or conflicting antivirus (especially McAfee or Norton). Uninstall VCDS, disable AV, reinstall, and then re-enable AV.
